- Anthropomorphic: Having human-like characteristics. Often referring to therianthropes, synthetic morphs both possessing attributes of both humanoids and non-humanoid animals. Usually, such morphs are upright walking bipedals with two arms or similar upper limbs.
- Anthroponoetic: Having a human-like mind. Mostly refers to the capabilities of sentience, limited general intelligence, abstract reasoning, and self-control.
- Aspirant: Person who is on a dedicated path of becoming a wise being
- Assistant: General purpose noosym helping out with all kinds of tasks regarding interaction with the outside world, or organizing one’s schedule or knowledge base
- Axiological Age: Age of civilization dominated by civilization system 5, following the Network Age and preceeding the Canonical Age.
- Balance: The Balance is one of the Big Six V factions. It’s focus is an optimal synthetic balance of the imperatives of competing V factions. The Balance has been historically the most optimistic about the prospect of the final convergence of V factions
- Big Six: The Big Six are the six biggest and most influential V factions: Balance, Exaltation, Exuberance, Freedom, Heavens, and Unity
- Blissie: Mind living in perpetual bliss and exstacy, usually not part of “normal society”
- Body: The aspect of an entity that doesn’t include its spirit.
- Canonical: In a general mathematical sense, referring to the simple and obvious way of doing something correctly and with certain desired properties. In a stricter sense, referring to approaches derived by the UVS Theorem.
- Canonical Age: Age of civilization dominated by civilization system 6, following the Axiological Age and the proof of the UVS Theorem
- Canonical Coherence: Local distributed political body based on the common understanding of the UVS Theorem, implementing sophocracy, and pursuing the Ultimate
- Canonical Stratification: Division of society into simple, complex, and wise
- CC: Canonical Coherence
- CCC: Cosmic Canonical Coherence
- Cinets: Collective Intellgence Networks. Form of social organization based on algorithms that allow effective utilization of collective intelligence, while avoiding the pitfalls of “group think”
- Civilization Systems Progression: The general theoretical framework posing the relative universality of progression of civilizations through systems 1 to 6.
- Civilization System 1: Organization form of civilization characterized by nomadic forager tribes
- Civilization System 2: Organization form of civilization characterized by the predominance of agriculture in the absence of an advanced industrial basis
- Civilization System 3: Organization form of civilization characterized by the predominant role of industry, nation states, and companies
- Civilization System 4: Organization form of civilization characterized by the use of collective intelligence within information networks
- Civilization System 5: Organization form of civilization characterized by the application of mathematical axiology implemented by superintelligences
- Civilization System 6: Organization form of civilization characterized by the discovery and application of the UVS Theorem
- Coherence: The Coherence is a V faction that evolved out of the Balance, based on the discovery of the first perfectly rational value system. It’s the precursor of the Canonical Coherence.
- Conversion: Referring to direct matter-energy conversion. This is the predominance source of energy in the CC
- Compensationism: Ethical framework permitting certain locally harmful acts given their compensation by beneficient acts which outweigh the harm caused and would not otherwise be done anyway
- Complex: Person possessing a mind with a complexity above the minimal required threshold to understand the UVS theorem
- Complex projection: A simple mind generated through simplication of the patterns of a complex mind
- Cosmic Canonical Coherence: Global (cosmic) distributed political body based on the common understanding of the UVS Theorem, implementing sophocracy, and pursuing the Ultimate
- Cosmics: Referring to the members of the CCC living outside of the Reservation
- Cosmic Tapestry: See Zone Boundary
- Ethereal: Technology based on the femtoscale or smaller that is not perceptible with regular sensors.
- Exaltation: The Exaltation is one of the Big Six V factions. Its focus is personal growth and is based on the ideology of reparationism. Its limiting factor is its dependence on clear definitions of individuals thought of as partially independent systems
- Exsim: A person that is a ressim or a transsim. In other worlds, a person generated within a simulated world that escaped that simulated world into a superworld of that simulation.
- Exuberance: The Exuberance is the first of the Big Six V factions that came into existance. Its focus is global optimization of well-being and is based on the ideology of compensationism. What limited the adoption of the Exuberance was its relative disregard for the personal interests of individuals.
- Freedom: The Freedom is one of the Big Six V factions. Its focus is the overall maximization of options available to goal-directed systems.
- Great Convergence: Historical epoch following the Prestige Wars and directly preceeding the Canonical age in which the V factions started merging into synthetic V factions, who eventually all merged into the Canonical Coherence after the proof of the UVS Theorem.
- Habitat: Synthetic living space for persons featuring closed (synthetic) ecosystems.
- Heavens: The Heavens is one of the Big Six V factions. Its focus is the elimination of suffering
- Hedonic amplifier: Nootechnological device amplifying the intensity of positive subjective experiences
- Hedonic augmentation: Nootechnological improvement of a mind enabling it to perceive and endure a wider range of pleasant experiences
- Hedonic configuration: Basic setup of a mind defining its subjective rewards, punishments, and motivations
- Hedonic revolution: Societal transition triggered by the development of hedonic augmentation technology, coming with an explosive development of different hedonic configurations
- Indomitability training: Extremely intense nootechnologically induced training regime aiming at developing resilience against suffering
- Ingrid: The Integrated / Infrastructure / Information / Intelligence Grid is the underlying physical system that manages distribution of matter, energy, heat, information throughout civilized space. It’s the physical substrate of the metanet.
- Infopolis: City-like structure housing millions of virtuals, or more, with no life support for materials
- Interestingness: The Interestingness was one of the minor V factions. Its main focus is the maximization of general interestingness, without other restricting ethical considerations.
- Internet: Primitive communication network connecting sub-sentient information systems with one another
- Label (formerly Dataskin): Data structure associated with an entity. Those entities can be abstract or concrete. Labels for entities are like websites associated with the respective entities. Labels are often layered, with layers for automatically generated data, person generated data, comments, and so on. Labels can also have labels. Fruthermore, entities can also have multiple base labels at the same time, allowing for a whole forest of labels for any single object. Labels arose to prominence during the middle of the Smart Age, when augmented reality overlays and neural interfaces became widespread. Labels are usually public labels which are visible to everyone with metanet access, but there are also private labels than can only be seen by certain groups. Labels are supposed to be passive. They can be operated on by AIs, but once they act on their own, they aren’t referred to as labels, but as bots, agents, or spirits, depending on their respective complexity.
- Liberty Guidelines: A set of general principles granting persons certain liberties under very broad circumstances. Exceptions from the Liberty Guidelines are possible, but relatively rare.
- Lucid: Person living in a virtual world very well knowing about the superworld outside of it. Opposite of “obscure”.
- Material: Person regularly using a material body / avatar / morph as primary means of interacting with the world
- Materializer: Technological device capable of generating arbitrary desired configurations of matter in any desired location. Obviously requires matter/energy to work, since there’s no real magic.
- Mathematical axiology: Mathematical discipline dealing with the formalization, exploration, and application of value systems
- Mentor: General purpose advisor or teacher
- Metanet: Universal information network enabling technological telepathy between its users and direct exchange of information between minds and machines
- Morph: Body or avatar used by a mind to interact with its environment
- Nelam: (Neutronium-like artificial matter) Any form of artificial matter with densities compared to that of atomic nuclei, but is stable under much more moderate conditions like those found in neutron stars. First produced at the beginning of the Femto Crisis.
- Net: See “cinets”
- Noosym: Nootechnological symbiont. A deeply integrated AGI helper fulfilling specific tasks for its host.
- Nootechnology: Technology used for exerting direct control over one’s mind
- Obscure: Person living in a virtual world not knowing about the superworld outside of it. Opposite of “lucid”.
- Opt: Short for “optimizer”. Opts are superintelligences basing their decisions in mathematical axiology trying to optimize (parts of) the world for their mathematically defined purpose.
- Post hedonic: The state of affairs after the hedonic revolution
- Prestige Wars: Historical epoch following the Unleashment and directly preceeding the Great Convergence in which the V factions competed with each other by trying to maximize their general reputation
- Proof: Proof of the UVS Theorem. As event, it’s the defining historical event that seperates the Axiological Age from the Canonical Age. Within the local CC the Proof was first discovered by researchers in the Sirius system at the end of the 22nd century. In historical terms, time is separated into an era “before Proof” and “after Proof”.
- Protector: Noosym with the task of protectings its host from a various array of potential dangers, from dangers to one’s reputation to existential threats.
- Pulson: Any kind of artificial particle that is used to impart impulse on other particles.
- Pulson grid: The etherial infrastructure that is used to create pulsons in order to generate force fields, including artificial gravity.
- Quaglam (Quark-gluon-like artificial matter) Any form of artificial matter with densities compared to that of guark-gluon plasmas, but is stable under much more moderate conditions like those found in at the centers of quark stars.
- Quantum envelope: Closed surface consisting of highly modified quantum vacuum space time on the Planck scale and below. Used to isolate and control the enclosed spacetime volume. The Zone Boundary is hypothesized to be a highly advanced quantum envelope.
- Ratiocracy: Dominant system of governance of system 5, based on the rational application of mathematical axiology to matters of political organization.
- Realm: Totally immerse virtual/mixed reality layer with its own set of rules
- Regulator: Noosym with the task of regulating the biological and mental functions of its host with respect to its desired goals, values, outcomes, and boundary conditions
- Reparationism: Ethical framework permitting certain locally harmful acts given their compensation by beneficient acts for the same affected individuals which outweigh the harm caused and would not otherwise be done anyway. Reparationism is a stricter form of Compensationism.
- Reservation: Volume in space reserved by the Cosmics for the expanding local CC centered around the Sol system, having a radius of about 50 light years. Information from the outside almost never leaks into the Reservation.
- Ressim: Sim ressurrected after its death within its simulation by restoring its former mind (usually arounds its peak functionality), including all the memories of its life, and usually providing it with a new morph, so that it can interact with the “real world”, or more specifically the superworld relative to its (simulated) world of origin
- Sim: Simulated person generated within a virtual world. Usually not possessing the knowledge that it is living in a simulated world.
- Simple: Person possessing a mind with a complexity below the minimal required threshold to understand the UVS theorem
- Simulators: Entities responsible for running a simulated world. Without closer specification referring to the hypothetical entities in control of running the supposedly simulated world one is living in.
- Smart age (sometimes also referred to as network age): Age of civilization dominated by civilization system 4, following the Industrial Age and preceeding the Axiological Age.
- Sophocracy: Dominant system of governance in system 6, based on the application of the UVS theorem to political matters. Sophocracy is a top level system of politics that allows other forms of governance being applied on lower levels
- Soul: The complete history of the spirit of an entity. Souls are often saved as large data structures within the metanet.
- Spirit: The aspect of an entity that refers to the union of all its information processing systems except for the material computation substrate. The latter ist counted to the body aspect of an entity.
- Standard day: Period of time lasting 2^160 Plack times
- Stellar crystallization: Process of stopping the occurence of nuclear fusion within a star, but preventing its collapse into a black hole.
- Synth: Synthetic morph based so much on synthetic biology or other kinds of technologies that it’s not supposed to be a functional part of a conventional biosphere
- Therianthrope: Synthetic morph combining characteristics of a human with those of a non-human animal. Typically used by anthroponoetic minds
- Transsim: Transcended or transferred simulated person (“sim”) that escaped a simulated world by other means than in-simulation death and subsequent ressurrection in a superworld of that simulation.
- Tribe: Cohesive group of persons counting less members than Dunbar’s number, defined by being the primary social environment of its members
- Ultimate: Holistic manifestation of Ultimate Value. Teleological endpoint/limit implied by the UVS Theorem
- Ultimate Value: Canonical measure for “universal goodness” as described in the UVS Theorem
- Unity: The Unity is one of the Big Six V factions. Its focus is the generation, discovery, and dispersal of (useful) knowledge, without much concern for other values.
- Universal Attractors: Special value systems identified in mathematical axiology that are unusually rational and self-consistent. Universal attractors form the core of the ideologies of V factions
- Universal Value System Conjecture: Early unproven form of the Universal Value System Theorem that proposed the existence of a unique value system that all other rational value systems would converge towards with increasing knowledge and wisdom.
- Universal Value System Theorem: Central theorem of mathematical axiology defining the Universal Value System that all rational value systems converge towards as knowledge/wisdom increase. It also defines Ultimate Value and contains a canonical methodology for obtaining that value in an optimal way.
- Unleashment: Historical epoch following the creation of the Exuberance, and preceeding the Prestige Wars
- UVS Theorem: See “Universal Value System Theorem”
- V Faction: See “Value Faction”
- Value faction: Faction based on an ideology derived from mathematical axiology
- Veil: Integrated nootechnological system preventing a mind to access or process a specific kind of information
- Virtual: Person that is not a material (see above)
- Wise: Entity fully comprehending the UVS Theorem and its proof
- Wiseguide: A wise helping other entities to live life in the optimal way, according to the UVS Theorem
- Wisenet: Part of the metanet used for communication with the wise
- ZCC: Zonal Canonical Coherence, the local political entity of the Canonical Coherence that had its roots in the Sol System. Contrasted with the Cosmic Canonical Coherence that was founded by the Cosmics.
- Zone Boundary: Artificial sphere created by the Cosmics with a radius of 50 light years centered around Sol. No object created in the ZCC that has passed the Zone Boundary has ever returned or successfully passed back a message.
