Any V faction that tried to escape the grasp of Cosmoshield unilaterally would quickly be deactivated by Cosmoshield. A war wouldn’t break out. The defecting V faction would effectively commit suicide by any attempt to undermine the proper procedures defined by the Prestige Accords.

How are they deactivated? Will all individuals of a school of thought be killed?

Yes, it did. An incredible number of simulated animals needed to be transferred to heaven simulations, after their died in their initial simulations. This has the consequence that each simulation with serious levels of suffering required the use of a multiple of its original computation and storage resources, in order to support all those artificial heavens. This made simulated words with extensive suffering quite expensive, so that a lot less of such simulations were run than without the Prestige Accords.

It’s interesting that the exuberance influenced the unity to compensate for suffering. But why is heaven expensive? Does every being that has suffered get its own heaven?

The Balance pursued those projects, too, but in a more balanced and moderate fashion, of course.

Ecstasianism is more akin to a religion or creed for sentient beings who often aren’t smart enough to understand the intricacies of the philosophy of the Exuberance completely.

They are put into a state of enforced hiberation until the get woken up in a safe space.

No, but there is the necessity to store the neural patters of all deceased individuals and to keep them active. This by itself consumes much more resources than simply deleting the individuals in question.

Yes, I agree. The simplest approach would be to use a quarter of the total budget of the Balance into each of the four main projects of the other V factions. But of course that would be way too simple. I will expand on this topic in the upcoming interview with Sockrad on the Balance.

The Exuberance doesn’t strive for individual ecstasy, but for the greatest total happiness. That isn’t necessarily the same. The latter is much harder to maximize intellectually.
